Discover Junior Golf Tour

The Discover Junior Golf Tour was launched with the intention to provide an extraordinary & competitive golf experience for junior golfers between the ages of 7 and 18. There will be four levels of competition based on age and it’s open to both male and female participants. All events will be individual stroke play tournaments.

The mission of the Discover Junior Golf Tour is to provide an opportunity for junior golfers in the state of ND a chance to learn the game through a combination of play, competition, and instruction. The progression from entry level to competitive golfer will work in conjunction with the American Junior Golf Association and the Junior Golf Scoreboard.

9U Division

Designed for 7-9 year-olds who have little or no experience in competitive golf. 

Our youngest playing division will be competing with an 8 am shotgun start at El Zagal Par 3 Golf Course each Wednesday. The golf course will be set up with appropriate yardages pertaining to the ages of the competitors.

All participating junior golfers are required to provide their own equipment necessary to compete. Juniors who have reached their 10th birthday prior to August 1, 2025 will be required to play in the 12U division.

The Fargo Park District’s El Zagal Golf Course is a Par-3 beginner friendly course. All events are individual stroke play tournaments. The 9U will have both a girl’s and boy’s division. Discover Junior Golf encourages all participants to have a parent, guardian or family member (16 years of age or older) caddie for them to enhance the playing experience. All caddies must follow the guidelines and policies of the Discover Junior Golf Tour. Players and/or caddies must carry their bag or use a non-motorized push cart if allowed by the host facility. No golf carts are allowed for players and/or caddies.

12U Division

Designed for 10-12 year-olds who have some experience in competitive golf. 

Our middle playing division will be competing at El Zagal, Osgood and Prairiewood Golf Courses with a tee-time start format. The golf courses will be set up with appropriate yardages pertaining to the ages of the competitors.

Juniors who have reached their 13th birthday prior to August 1, 2025 will be required to play at the 15U level.

All events are individual stroke play tournaments. The 12U division will include both a girl’s and boy’s division. Discover Junior Golf encourages all participants have a parent, guardian or family member (16 years of age or older) caddie for them to enhance the playing experience. 15U Division

Designed for 13-16 year old golfers who are looking for a competitive playing experience.

Our oldest playing division will be competing at El Zagal, Osgood and Prairiewood Golf Courses. Each course will host one nine-hole event using a tee-time start format. The golf courses will be set up with appropriate yardages pertaining to the ages of the competitors.

This division is for juniors who have not reached their 16th birthday prior to August 1, 2025.

All events are individual stroke play tournaments. The 15U division will include both a girl’s and boy’s division. Discover Junior Golf encourages all participants have a parent, guardian or family member (16 years of age or older) caddie for them to enhance the playing experience. Team Events

Designed for all participants of the Discover Junior Golf Tour. 

Players can play with a player partner of any age. Division will be based on the age of the oldest player.

All Team Events will be scheduled at El Zagal Golf Course beginning at 6 pm.

Youth Golf Instructional Programs

The Youth Golf Instructional Programs teach youth ages 5 – 15 the basics of golf in group lessons with a maximum of 6 to 1 participant-to-instructor ration. The six-week session runs June 9 to July 24, with the week of July 4 off. Participants need at least a golf bag, wood, iron, and putter (unless participating in Level 1 Active Start in which SNAG golf gear is provided).

LEVEL 1
(5-7 years of age)

LEVEL 1 – ACTIVE START (5-7 YEARS OF AGE)

Active Start is the entry level program designed for youth with little or no golf experience. The class will meet for 50 minutes once a week for five lessons. Using the oversized and bright colored SNAG (Starting New at Golf) equipment, the youth will be taught a simplified approach to learning the game of golf.

SNAG golf equipment will be provided for participants.

LEVEL 1+
(5-7 years of age)

LEVEL 1+  (5-7 YEARS OF AGE)

Level 1+ introduces youth to the same fundamentals as Level 1 but using real clubs rather than SNAG equipment.

Clubs are available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.

LEVEL 2
(7-9 years of age)

LEVEL 2 – FUNdamentals (7-9 YEARS OF AGE)

FUNdamentals is the follow-up to Active Start and Level 1+. This level is designed for participants with or without previous golf experience.

LEVEL 3
(9-12 years of age)

LEVEL 3 – LEARN TO PLAY (9-12 YEARS OF AGE)

Learn to Play is the follow-up to FUNdamentals. This level is designed for participants with or without previous golf experience.

LEVEL 4
(9-12 years of age)

LEVEL 4 – LEARN TO PLAY+ (9-12 YEARS OF AGE)

Learn to Play+ helps participants build on their fundamentals, improving their full swing, short game, rules, etiquette, and course strategy through practice and team-based play.

LEVEL 5
(9-12 years of age)

LEVEL 5 – PLAY TO IMPROVE (9-12 YEARS OF AGE)

Play to Improve is the follow-up to Learn to Play+. Participants in this program should already have solid fundamentals and desire to improve their game and possibly play competitively at the junior high or high school level.

All Fargo Park District programs and leagues are first come, first serve. Please be advised, many programs and leagues fill up before the registration deadline. You cannot register for a program or league that is already full. Some programs and leagues have waitlists.
